After one year in construction industry

As you may already know that i used to work for an IT company in past doing procurement of computer equipment but suddenly this was aborted and i did not picked any offer roaming in the job market for almost six months.

Then i was approached by my present day employer and ultimately accepted the offer. I started to work in a totally different environment both in terms of organizational culture and nature.

In start i felt like that i was back to school, whatever i tried it simply bounced back, naturally i was annoyed, i expected something better, then i realized and recalled that i have to face all this because this was totaly changed from computers to building material, it was complete contrast to what i did before.

Then after some days i picked up the pace, thanks to the fact i was able to pickup the slang, terminology and product knowledge. My previous experiences helped me a lot, especially my connection building skill and precisely accurate communication helped me distinguish my self from my colleagues and management. Other than these ability to learn and unlearn helped me focus on my core job.

Every industry has something unique, positive and negative. IT procurement speciast has a tidy white collar job whereas if you are working in a construction firm, this is a rusty hazardous environment. There is not so much on the plate to keep someone motivated for a sustained period when it comes to construction.

But there is a catch; you have unlimited opportunity for learning because you have fair chances of getting taste of almost all major industries or basic technologies in electrical, mechanical, chemical, architecture, electronics, information systems and countless other sciences involved in a single project. IT procurement was a pristine niche but its scope was limited, whereas IT procurement can merely form a subcategory in broader construction scenario.

For me this change or diversion brought an enormous wealth of knowledge plus helped me polish my skills further; and despite of several severe kind of challenges that i am facing my plan is to sustain and drill deep into it.
